I like the cover better - Police on my Back
The first time I heard this song was the cover by The Clash:
Police on my Back
The original is by the band The Equals. It's amazing. One member of The Equals you need to know of - if you somehow don't know - is Eddy Grant. "Electric Avenue" is one of the best rock songs of all time.
But that's besides the point here.
The original? Great song.
The cover? Superior to my ears.
I always wanted to use this as a walkout song for a fight. What I ended up using back in the day was Killing Zone by Rancid.

The Clash - Straight to Hell
One of my music-loving clients was training with me this morning and we heard what we thought was the intro to this:
No such luck. It was a song that either sampled Straight to Hell, or just lifted the riff and re-made it. It sure sounded just like Straight to Hell.
So I had to sit and listen to this track tonight.

Izzy Stradlin & Ju Ju Hounds: Pressure Drop
I first heard this song done by The Clash, but I like this version a lot:
I wish Izzy Stradlin and Juju hounds put out more stuff than they did. This is a nice ripping cover into a pure reggae kind of version. I'm not a big reggae fan, beyond some Desmond Dekkar and Eddie Grant stuff. The original is mostly interesting to me because, well, The Clash and Izzy Stradlin.

Forgotten Album Track: Atom Tan/The Clash
Possibly my favorite track on the last album by The Clash is Atom Tan.
It's a strange stream-of-consciousness indictment of society in a very typical Clash fashion. While Combat Rock is best known for Should I Stay or Should I Go? and Rock the Casbah - for good reason - and possibly should be better known for Know Your Rights, it's Atom Tan that I queued up the moment I finally got this again on CD. It is, hands down, my favorite track off the album.
Now you've caught an even atom tan.
