Rancid - If the Kids are United (Sham 69 cover)

I'd forgotten about this, because someone had borrowed all of my Give 'Em The Boot CDs a long time back and never gave them back. So I need to track them down again.

And of course, because Matt Freeman, they kicked up the bass line a lot on this one.

Angelic Upstarts - If the Kids are United (Sham 69 Cover)

I was listening to the Angelic Upstarts recently, and found this:



I love the original, I like this cover, too. And thanks to the Dropkick Murphys for reminding me about these guys the other day with one of the records displayed on their video wall behind the band as they played.

Sham Pistols - Natural Born Killer

At one point, the Sex Pistols had broken up and then Sham 69 broke up.

So Steve Jones & Paul Cook (Sex Pistols) joined up with Dave Tregunna & Jimmy Pursey (Sham 69) teamed up and made music.

Here is Natural Born Killer.



It's not clear what they were called, if anything, but they've been retroactively named the Sham Pistols. Which is as accurate as it is ironic, really. They really rock in a way that's very much a blend of the two bands. You can hear so much of the Jones/Cook blend you got in the post-Rotton pistols music with that later Sham 69 vocals.

Sham 69 - Borstal Breakout

First note to end, this song is pure angry crunch. But like a lot of rage-fueled 70s English rock, it just makes me happy.

I once had the privilege of singing this side-by-side with Lindsay Anderson aka Kitty Kowalski at a SUX show. I think of that every time I hear this song.
