Dropkick Murphys - The Season's Upon Us

Merry Christmas!

I'd never describe myself as a big fan of Dropkick Murphys but I've seen them live more than a few times. That's a combination of festival shows, co-headlining with Rancid, and them just being a fantastic live show every single time.

So Merry Christmas!

Keith Levene - RIP

Keith Levene passed away. He was a founding member of The Clash, and and a founding member (with Jah Wobble and John Lydon) of PiL.

Here is the stunning opening to their self-titled first album, "Theme."

Misfits - Last Caress

My trainer Mike decided it was high time to educate the youngsters today about music. We ended up talking about The Misfits and he played a bunch, starting with this:

Great stuff. I insisted he follow it up with Where Eagles Dare.

Marshall Crenshaw - Cynical Girl

I heard this on the speakers at work today - there was a whole set of mid-70s to early-80s rock going on.

Marshall Crenshaw is, of course, best known as a member of (younger) Pete's band, "The Blowholes," from the Adventures of Pete & Pete epside, "A Hard Day's Pete."

AC/DC - Whole Lotta Rosie

Fight intro music for Peter "the Dutch Lumberjack" Aerts.

Also one of my favorite AC/DC songs.

Possibly the best AC/DC song intro, too.

Whole Lotta Rosie.

She sounds pretty damn fine, and if you're not banging your head to this, I'm not sure anything will get your head banging to anything.

She's a whole lotta woman, and this is a whole lotta song.

Amy and the Sniffers - Hertz

Amy and the Sniffers are pretty much perfect punk rock.

This song kicks ass on every level.

If that's not enough, check out another rocker of theirs - Cup of Destiny:

AC/DC - Let There Be Rock

Let it be known that AC/DC is one of the greatest bands to walk the Earth . . . and this is possibly their greatest song.

Let. There. Be. Rock.

Blink-182 - All the Small Things (Live)

I really like this song - studio and live alike. It has a great tune, good words, and - naturally - really good drumming. I always liked this Blink-182 song, but I have to admit that it was Travis Barker playing in The Transplants that made me really go back and pay closer attention to their other songs.

Good stuff.

The Transplants - Romper Stomper

I got into the Transplants because I'm willing to give a listen to any Rancid side project. Tim, Lars, Matt, Brett, or Branden are in a band? I'm interested. The Transplants, Stomper98, Charger, The Armstrongs, The Used, the Old Firm Casuals? Turn them all up.

I think the first song I heard from them was D.J, but Romper Stomper kicks ass. Let's listen to Romper Stomper.

The whole album is worth a listen. Warning: it's loud at any volume.

Behind the Vinyl: Gary Numan, "Cars"

Gary Numan speaking about writing "Cars."

I'll see him this Friday . . . can't wait.

Like a bat out of hell . . . Meat Loaf

In memory of Meat Loaf. I managed to see him live once, when he was 64. It was a great show.

This song is never played in my car below a VERY LOUD volume:
